Greetings. First I would like to thank all the glest developers and modders. I can really see how much work you put into it. Although I have never posted here before, I have lurked here for a signifigant amount of time, as I have worked on my new Faction.

Now for the good stuff:
The new faction is called 'Science', and includes 18 units and five upgrades. Almost all of the buildings are the buildings from very early versions of Glest, such as the castle logo on the homepage, or reskinned versions of the same. The characters are reskinned moddels from the current glest game. The mod is still in development, and I'm also conducting a few experiments with it (appropriate for a faction who's basic unit is the 'Scientist' ;) )

This is a link to the download.
Just unzip it directly in the directory of the tech-tree you wish to use it with. My computer takes a long time to load, so I have a second tech-tree containing all of the mods I have made or downloaded, such as the newest ones, Indian, Bugs, and Humans, the last two as part of the SST:LD mod. (Both of which I'm very excited about. Great job guys!)
Anyway, here is the link!

Indeed. They're more like fuzzy outlines at the moment. I am primarily concerned with getting the faction up and running (in a manner balanced with the other factions, i might add).

Their tower is too strong!
I played against them; and a tower killed all my men :(

The tower thing has a large splash radius, so if a lot of units are caught together, they can all be killed at the same time. Now that you mention it, I should change that for next time...

<rant>
This is still very much a work in progress, so I appreciate feedback on the game-play. I mainly released it now because it is frustrating to hear about mods for months, only for the project to die with nothing yet available for download. I just wanted to put something out as soon as possible.

I changed them one time, but it took/takes a while, and I'm not sure if i still have a copy.

My Suggestion:
Don't play as science. They are quite unbalanced.

If You are still interested, I can look for the edited files. However, if I no longer have them, I would like some help editng new ones. Don't worry--it's quite easy to do (just time consuming.)

You have to open the XML of each unit (attackers only) and change as follows:
Code: [Select]
<attack-type value="sword"/> =changes to=<attack-type value="slashing"/>
<attack-type value="magic"/>=changes to=<attack-type value="energy"/>

*Note-I would suggest changing the electric sheep's attack to "impact" (instead of slashing)

Ok, I checked, and I definitely do not have the edited science files any more. However, the use of one of ^these^ programs would greatly speed up the process.

I'll post back with the fixed files

the reason why it doesn't work is simple if you think outside the box, in his first post he said that he keeps all his mods in one faction, witch meant he could use the resources for this folder from other mods witch weren't standard glest files, in other words download the Indians and noresmen and this mod should work

No, it's because 3.1.2 (or whichever) has new attack types. Instead of sword and arrow, it's slashing and piercing, and all that. It doesn't have anything to do with him having all his mods in one faction. What he meant is that he keeps all his new units and factions and other people's new units and factions in one tech tree.

i figured out a fix.
just copy the magitech xml to a folder and change piercing to arrow, slashing to sword, impact to beat, metal to plate, and energy to magic wherever they appear in the copy.

Or else you can just copy the old data to a new folder in the techs folder, and then install Science there.

but that prevents you from using sci with magitech. My method works better  :)

They are unbalanced!
But they're nice against tech! (just make some dragons (both kinds) and attack, you win!!!)
AI has problems with them. (They just harvest but don't actually do anything)

You can get the AI to use the units but you need to do some rework of the XML files of each unit. First I've found that the AI need a reason to make some units so start by giving 1 energy unit to each building made then it will make every building then on the philosopher tell it to minus 1 energy for making each it is under resouces needed just make a new line and put <resource name="energy" amount="-1"/> do this with every unit you want the AI to build but you don't need to do it with the dragons or thunder clouds once the AI builds the hologram tower and the ancient castle it will produce them when they have enough resources. I've do this and they are tough to beat. they build up about 15 to 20 dragons then they seed them. they useally wont make thunder clouds until you up yours to the top attack unit and then wont make more than 5 at a time but there capability to make dragons are fast plus you need to remove the attack command from the scientest if not everytime something attacks they stop gathering and building to go out to attack and even when the attack is over the very rarely pick up on the building where they left off. So make them 2 minded harvest and build no attack there week at it anyways. if you follow this they will beat Indian faction most of the time

you can follow this same advice for magic as well it doesn't work as well when food or housing is the resource but energy it works good. I am not saying giving a minus in food to tech doesn't do anything it does but not as much as the minus energy with Science faction and the magic Faction but for some reason having minus housing in the Indian faction does nothing to moavate it to build wisly but with the other 2 wow

The battle cannon was way to powerful, so I modded it to make it weaker.  I gave it less range and a less powerful attack.  One thing I would appreciate is more melee units.  Melee units instead of all the ranged units would make it more balenced.
