tutorial doesn't work
« on: 29 September 2009, 03:11:33 »
I just got Glest 3.22, the game runs fine, but the tutorial button does not work. Just makes a click sound. I have been learning as I go along but get clobbered everytime, so tutorial would be helpful.  I am running it on ubuntu linux.
Thanks

How did you install glest?

The glest package in Ubuntu is buggy. See:

I installed it from http://www.getdeb.net/app/Glest.  It is the second install. The first time I don't remember where I got that one from. But it did the same thing.  I noticed  your link was for 3.21, and the fix was for 3.21. should I use that instead of 3.22?

Only the glest data package is broken. It just does not include the tutorial files. The data package is the same for glest 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. Replacing the packages with debian ones did not work for a Linux Mint user:

Best way is probably to follow titi's suggestion and install the whole game with this installer:

Download, make executable and run it.

If the game does not start, see:

Yes, protoman, Yggdrasil is right. Both the Ubuntu Jaunty original package and the one from Getdeb lack the inclusion of the turorials.

Install from some other source (one who actually remembered to include the tutorials in the package...) or just download the data (which you will have to move to the correct folders yourself but that's pretty easy to figure out too). If you need help with installing the data source, try this guide (also for compiling but you don't need that... Just remember to replace /usr/local/games/glest in assassin's guide with /usr/share/games/glest if you're sticking with just fixing the .deb you got from Getdeb):

I've updated https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=4602.0 with instructions for fixing this.  I did it for Kubuntu 9.10 but it should work for Ubuntu & Debian too.
