Romans - Historically based! (WIP)

I've been seeing that I have less and less downloads of the Fantasy Romans faction, and I think that a new more historically based mod will be fun for Glesters.
I'm working on plans for this, I can model, and animate, but I'm looking for support in unwrapping/texturing as those are my weak areas.

Also, a show of hands, or rather posts........
Do you think this should be an open-blend project or should just a few people get together and not have the rest of the community help and give input.

I'll post what I have once I have the plans ready, and this vote is over.

I'd rather you don't. Notice how fiction books are always better to read than non-fiction (try comparing harry potter to a biography of Einstein). Nuf said.

I actually prefer historical, after playing Praetorians I want to go historical.
Everytime I see the Golden Eagle I think, jeez what a childish faction I've made, little birdies shooting fire out of their mouths! ::)
Where-as when I play praetorians I look in marvel and that's my main inspiration for this.

Besides, you're comparing books to games, nuf said.

I want to make a totally new Romans faction, this time Historically based. The older Romans faction will be called Fantasy Romans.

Sorry if I insulted you Elim, we made it, and the birdy does shoot little fireballs out of it's mouth.

BTW, since this one will be historically based, there will be no air units.

Historically based would proove rather difficult, as you wil ave to consider tiny tiny details
(not in the model itself, but historically correct)

The thing is I had linux running threw wubi so one windows crashed(which I know fixed) kubuntu 9.10 also crashed and became totally corrupted thanks to hal.dll

Ok everybody, round up and convince arch to see some sense. This is why reality sucks. I'd take fantasy over reality any day. Besides the romans (during the pagan times) DID believe in a bunch of weird gods and mythical creatures, so I fail to see what's wrong with this. Few good games are historically accurate. Most of the best still add in their own fun units (Age of Empires II, anyone?).

I don't really see a problem with not having air units.  The Roman Empire was pretty one-dimensional with its military.  They didn't even have a standing navy for long periods of time.

Well, I have to say the air unit is what makes the Fantasy Romans mod so boring, it's just too cartoony.

Reality does suck, but it's a ton more f*cking interesting that fantasy.

Omega and Elim, you guys both play games at a level of "oh isn't this fun". I get into a game and really have fun when I have troops marching all over the screen, and when I see the little birdie go flying across the screen I just lose all spirit and sometimes quit the game.

Praetorians as my Dad said, 'makes you feel like you're really there'.

I was gonna offer a great human body model but omegas right and thinking of that the romans army itself is goddamn boring. Id rather learn about the dark elves from forgotten then take a a class that tells you that it was cold when jesus was born

K fine but he wouldnt make much use of my barbarian worker model anyways and I still havent finished his head. Also anyways make nicer building for this. FR's buildings are all identical just stone and maybe something else not to historical or even fantastical

Also norsemen is very historical base ever read eaters of the dead by michael creighton its about the norsemen and historically developed its a almost-real story

This will not be perfectly accurate, but this will be a lot more accurate then the fantasy version.
